This book is designed for students enrolled at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Cali, who have achieved an intermediate level of English.Within the context of english for General Academic Purposes (EGAP), this textbook takes into account the linguistic and discursive aspects of the English language while enphasizing the rhetorical aspects of reading and writing in both general specific topics of academic discourse.The textbook is divided into six chapters. Each chapter maintains a Basic pattern of presentation, practice and production. The first section of each chapter introduces the subject matter to be masters and provides simple exercises in preparation for paragraph composition. The following section adds more information and practice in greater depth. The last section of each chapter is divided in two parts which put into practice knowledge acquired to date. The first part works on developing greater skills in reading, testing for comprehension and analysis.
